AI is faster at the start of a dispute, not the finish. Software can scan your reports and draft a letter for each flagged item in minutes, but the bureaus get the same 30 days (45 in some cases) to investigate whether software or a firm sent the letter.
So the real race is how fast accurate letters reach all three bureaus, and how fast the next round starts once answers come back. A flat-price tool you control wins that race for someone with real errors. A firm starts with an assessment and case setup before anything is sent.
AI gets dispute letters out faster, but bureaus take the same 30 days
An AI dispute tool reads all three of your reports and drafts a dispute letter for each flagged item in minutes. If your errors are clear and you want to move today, that is the faster start. Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), a bureau has 30 days from receiving your dispute to investigate, and 45 days in some cases (Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, 2025).
At CreditRefresh, our AI runs a three-test checklist against every negative item on all three reports, and items that look inaccurate, incomplete, unverifiable or too old to report get a drafted letter for your review. We work on the reports, not the scores, and each letter targets the bureau where the issue appears. Rory D. gave five stars on Trustpilot on September 20, 2026: “Found errors that I was unaware of in a very short time”
The clock starts when the bureau receives your letter. A firm gets the same 30 days. Speed up front matters only because it starts the clock sooner.
How long does it take to prepare dispute letters with AI or a firm?
CreditRefresh goes from report scan to a drafted FCRA letter for each flagged item in minutes, and you review and sign every letter before it goes anywhere. A firm’s preparation runs through its own intake: Lexington Law opens with a free assessment and then attorney case setup, while The Credit People begins by phone with an evaluation at no charge before it works the case.
Our sign-up guide, What Happens After You Sign Up for CreditRefresh, sets the order:
- Connect your credit profile. You verify your identity once, and we pull your files from Equifax, Experian and TransUnion through a regulated credit-data provider. The pulls are soft inquiries and do not affect your score.
- The AI scans your reports. It reviews every line item for accuracy and completeness, and for whether it is reported in a way that follows the FCRA. It does not invent issues. If an account is yours and reported accurately, no letter gets drafted.
- Review what the AI found. Flagged items appear in your dashboard with the problem and the legal grounds, with a custom letter for each. Nothing is ever mailed without your approval.
- Letters go out and the clock starts. You mail each approved letter yourself, or RushMail, our mailing partner, sends it for a small per-letter fee. We track each dispute’s window and update you when responses come in.
Dovly sits at the hands-off end. Its Free plan is a manual tool limited to one item a month. On Premium, Dovly says its AI picks which items to dispute and when, and every Dovly dispute goes to TransUnion only. Its pages do not say the member reads or signs each letter.
If you have paid a firm and waited, you know the other side of that intake. In a one-star Trustpilot review of The Credit People from May 3, 2023, Brenda V. wrote: “Slow service no communication”
How long do credit bureaus have to investigate a dispute?
A bureau has 30 days from the day it receives your dispute to complete a reasonable reinvestigation, and it must record the item’s current status or delete it (Fair Credit Reporting Act, Section 611(a)(1)(A)). That window extends to 45 days in certain cases, and it applies to every dispute however the letter was written.
One case is relevant information you send during the 30 days, which adds up to 15 days (Fair Credit Reporting Act, Section 611(a)(1)(B)). Another is a dispute filed after you received your free annual credit report, which gets 45 days (Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, 2025). Once the investigation ends, the bureau has five business days to tell you the results (Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, 2025). The FCRA (1970) also requires the bureau to delete or correct what it cannot verify.
So drafting speed matters at the start of a round and cannot shorten the wait. Allow mail time on both ends, and check whether anything was added mid-investigation, because that can push the window to 45 days.
How long does a full credit dispute take across all three bureaus?
Each round runs on the bureau’s 30-to-45-day clock, so total time depends on how many rounds an item needs and how many bureaus carry it. CreditRefresh drafts letters for all three bureaus at once, so no round waits on another bureau. Tools that reach one bureau leave the other two reports unchanged until you file again.
Say, hypothetically, a wrong late mark sits on all three of your reports. Letters mailed the same day start three 30-day clocks together. A tool that reaches TransUnion alone starts one clock, and you file the other two later.
Dovly reaches TransUnion only on both plans. Credit Karma is free and shows you what is wrong, but its Direct Dispute works with TransUnion only and does not draft or mail letters. Its Trustpilot score is 1.1 across 915 reviews. Conqueso S. gave Credit Karma one star on Trustpilot on September 24, 2026: “You cannot get ahold of a human being at this company.”
Bureaus respond independently, so one may answer weeks before another. When answers arrive, our dashboard has your next round ready to start.
How much do AI dispute tools and credit repair firms cost each month?
CreditRefresh comes bundled with Refresh Monitoring for $49.99 a month. There is no setup fee, no charge per dispute and no contract. The only optional cost is a small per-letter fee if RushMail mails a round.
Each rival’s own published price follows.
- Dovly: Free at $0, or Premium at $99.99 a year or $39.99 a month. It publishes no setup fee.
- Dispute Beast: The dispute tool is free, but it requires Beast Credit Monitoring from $49.99 a month. Sprint Mail costs extra per letter, or you mail free yourself.
- The Credit People: $99 a month Standard, $119 a month Premium, or $599 for six months of Premium.
- Lexington Law: $139.95 a month, invoiced at the end of each service period.
A flat price tells you what you will pay. Jennifer C. left Lexington Law one star on Trustpilot on March 20, 2024, and wrote: “Their policy read they would initially charge $14.95 but $99 was withdrawn from my account.” If you cancel with us and the cancel control does not work, email support@creditrefresh.ai from your account email.
When is an AI dispute tool or a credit repair firm the wrong choice?
An AI dispute tool is the wrong choice if you have no real, disputable errors, such as a thin file or an already-high score, or if you do not want to review, sign and send letters at all. A firm is the wrong choice if you want to see what is being signed before it goes out, or if you do not want a monthly charge.
We built CreditRefresh for people with real, disputable errors. Outcomes are the bureaus’ call, and scores reflect the rest of your file. Our AI cannot raise a score that dropped for legitimate reasons. For litigation, garnishment or active identity theft, an attorney is a better fit, and support@creditrefresh.ai can help you find the next step.
With The Credit People, you do not draft, sign or mail the letters. Lexington Law offers no self-serve tool. If you want that handled for you, both are built for it. If you want to read every letter first, they are the wrong fit.
Price, bureaus reached and mailing for each credit-dispute option
Prices run from Dovly’s free tier to Lexington Law’s $139.95 a month, and mailing runs from our free self-mailing to a firm that sends everything for you.

Every price is that company’s own published rate, as its own site states it. Trustpilot scores and review counts as published.
Why does CreditRefresh get letters to all three bureaus in three steps?
Skip the paperwork. Start your dispute.
CreditRefresh drafts your FCRA dispute letter and tracks the 30-day investigation window. You review, approve, and send. You stay in control.
Get StartedCreditRefresh is an AI-powered credit-dispute tool from Credit Refresh LLC. It reads your credit reports, flags items that look inaccurate, incomplete, unverifiable or too old to be reported, and drafts a ready-to-send FCRA letter for each one. You go from scan to review to mailed letter in three steps, with nothing to learn and no training session. It is included with Refresh Monitoring at $49.99 a month, with no setup fee and cancel anytime, and credit data comes from the third party Array. We hold 4.6 on Trustpilot across 22 reviews.
It is software you control, and every letter is reviewed and signed before anything is sent. If you want RushMail to mail a round, the per-letter fee is billed separately and is not refunded under the guarantee. Members who send nine dispute rounds through RushMail, one every 40 days, get credit card utilization to 6% or below by round eight, add no new negative items and never see any of their three bureau scores rise above where they were at enrollment can claim back every Refresh Monitoring payment. That is a refund promise, not a score promise. Claims go to support@creditrefresh.ai with the subject line “Guarantee claim” during the 30-day window that opens 60 days after the ninth round, and the full terms are on the guarantee page.
CreditRefresh is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice, and no result is promised.
FAQ
Do I need a credit repair company to dispute errors on my credit report?
No. You have the legal right to dispute inaccurate information directly with the credit reporting companies and the companies that furnish your information, and they must investigate and fix mistakes as needed, usually within 30 days, at no cost to you (Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, 2026). The statute says the bureau acts “free of charge” (15 U.S.C. § 1681i). Software like ours drafts the letters, and you decide what is sent.
What happens if a bureau does not finish a dispute within 30 days?
The bureau must finish within 30 days of receiving your dispute (15 U.S.C. § 1681i), or within 45 days if you send relevant information during those 30 days (Fair Credit Reporting Act, Section 611(a)(1)(B)) or dispute after receiving your free annual report (Fair Credit Reporting Act, Section 612(a)(3)). If it does not, you can file a complaint with the CFPB at consumerfinance.gov. Credit reporting companies that break the law can be held liable for damages and attorney fees (Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, 2024). A missed deadline is not always followed by automatic deletion, so keep your dispute record.
What does a credit dispute letter need to include?
Give your name, address and phone number, the report confirmation number if you have one, and each error with its account number. Explain why it is wrong, ask for removal or correction, and attach the report section with the items circled plus copies, not originals, of supporting documents (Consumer Financial Protection Bureau). You can send it by certified mail with a return receipt, and keep copies of everything. We draft that letter for each item you decide to challenge.
What kinds of credit report errors can you dispute?
The FCRA (1970) lets you dispute information that is inaccurate, incomplete or unverifiable. We flag items such as wrong balances, misreported late payments, accounts that are not yours and duplicates. Most negative items may be reported for seven years, and bankruptcy cases up to ten (Fair Credit Reporting Act, Section 605, 1970).
What decides whether a corrected error changes your credit score?
Experian says: “Filing a dispute has no impact on credit scores. But if certain information on your credit report changes as a result of your dispute, your credit score can change.” (Experian, 2023). If the lender reported the item accurately, it stays and your score is not affected (Experian, 2026). The bureaus decide outcomes, and your score depends on the rest of your file.
CreditRefresh drafts a dispute letter for each flagged item on all three bureaus and mails nothing until you review and sign it. Backed by a 100% money-back guarantee.
