Lenders do not care which you used: a credit report lists accounts, balances and public records, not who wrote your dispute letters, so the final report and score are what count. Software you control fits a borrower with real errors to dispute, and a service fits one who wants the work handed off.

You are weighing a mortgage, car loan or card, and you have probably been burned or pitched already. The real choice is control, cost and whether the items you want to dispute are truly wrong.

Can a lender tell if you used credit repair software or a service?

No. A credit report shows accounts, balances, inquiries and public records, not who wrote a dispute letter, so a lender sees the same file whichever path you took. A borrower with real errors who wants to see and sign each letter fits software, and one who wants the work handed off fits a service.

The file holds open and closed accounts, balances, credit limits and past-due counts. Public records on it come down to bankruptcies and, in some cases, foreclosures (Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, 2020). Nothing in that list records a dispute letter’s author.

With us, you stay the author in the way that counts. We draft each dispute letter for your review, and nothing is sent until you approve and sign it. We also keep a record of dated dispute letters with tracked response windows, which is the record a consumer attorney wants to see.

What do lenders look at on your credit report before approving a loan?

Lenders weigh payment history, how much of your revolving credit you use, new accounts and inquiries, and debt-to-income. Each of these sits in the final file, which is why the repair path matters only through the errors it gets corrected.

FICO publishes the weights behind its score: payment history 35%, amounts owed 30%, length of credit history 15%, new credit 10% and credit mix 10% (FICO). FICO adds that those weights describe the general population and shift with your profile.

Debt-to-income is your monthly debt payments divided by your gross monthly income, and different loan products and lenders set different limits. A wrong report can reach several of these at once. A misreported late payment hits the 35% factor, a wrong balance hits the 30% factor, and an unauthorized hard pull hits the 10% factor. We flag unauthorized hard pulls and draft a dispute letter for each one. If an inaccurate item comes off, your score may improve, but that is never certain.

Can software or a service remove accurate negative items?

No. Accurate negatives stay until the clock the law sets runs out: seven years for collections, charge-offs and most other adverse items, and 10 years for bankruptcy cases (FTC’s Fair Credit Reporting Act compendium, 2026).

Neither CreditRefresh nor anyone else can take off an accurate, current, verifiable item, and we never promise to. A lender reads a true late mark the same way no matter who sent a letter about it. A service that promises otherwise is a red flag.

What software can do is find the items that are wrong. Our scan flags wrong balances, misreported late payments, accounts that aren’t yours and duplicates. Each dispute outcome is the bureau’s call, and the rest of your file still shapes your score.

What does credit repair software cost compared with a service?

CreditRefresh is a flat $49.99 a month with Refresh Monitoring, with no setup fee, no per-dispute charge and no contract. Traditional credit repair firms commonly charge $79 to $139 a month plus a setup fee. Disputing on your own with the bureaus costs nothing, so the paid options sell time and drafting. Access is free.

The only extra on our side is optional. You can mail each round yourself and cover printing and postage, or pay a small per-letter fee to have our partner RushMail print and mail it.

The tools you may have tried work differently. According to its own pricing, Dovly is free at $0, or $99.99 a year or $39.99 a month for Premium. Every Dovly dispute goes to TransUnion only, on both plans, and on Premium its AI chooses which items to dispute and when. It holds 4.6 on Trustpilot across 715 reviews. Of its 10 one- and two-star reviews in its latest 200, 4 say they paid and nothing changed and 4 say nobody answers.

Dispute Beast is the closest model to ours. Its dispute tool is free but needs paid monitoring from $49.99 a month, with Sprint Mail extra per letter or free self-mail, and it covers all three bureaus. It holds 4.2 on Trustpilot across 2091 reviews. Of its 33 one- and two-star reviews in its latest 200, 21 say they paid for months and nothing changed. If you paid and got nothing, you were not careless. You were sold a promise.

What happens when a credit repair tool disputes items that are accurate?

Under Section 611 of the Fair Credit Reporting Act, a bureau is allowed to end a reinvestigation when it reasonably decides a dispute is frivolous or irrelevant, and it must tell you within 5 business days (FTC). The item stays on your report and the round is wasted. With software you read and sign every letter before it goes out, while at a done-for-you firm such as The Credit People you do not draft, sign or mail the letters.

That is why the items you pick matter more than the path you pick. We scan all three bureaus and flag items that look inaccurate. We never promise to erase accurate items.

The Credit People charges $99 a month for Standard, $119 for Premium or $599 for six months of Premium, and covers all three bureaus. On Trustpilot it holds 1.7 across 18 reviews. Of those 18, 12 say they paid for months and nothing changed. A one-star Trustpilot review of The Credit People from Joey P., dated March 29, 2026, reads: “Seven and 1/2 months, at $119.99 a month, not one item removed.”

When is credit repair software the wrong choice, and when is a service?

Software is the wrong choice if your file has no real errors to dispute, such as a thin file or an already-high score, or if you do not want to read and sign letters. A service is the wrong choice if you want to see every letter before it is sent, since Lexington Law’s attorneys handle the disputes for you.

We built CreditRefresh for people with real, disputable errors. A thin file’s problem is what is missing, so a dispute tool has little to work on. Lexington Law charges $139.95 a month, invoiced at the end of each service period, and works all three bureaus. It holds 3.2 on Trustpilot across 624 reviews. Of its 134 one- and two-star reviews in its latest 200, 79 say they paid for months and nothing changed. On November 22, 2024, Kim K. gave Lexington Law one star on Trustpilot: “you’ll deal with nothing more than AI BOTS, and if you do manage to talk to an actual live person, they’ll laugh in your face.”

Timing matters for lenders. While a bureau investigates, the account can carry a note that the item is disputed, and a lender pulling your report can see it. Resolving errors takes at least the 30-day investigation window. If you are weeks from a mortgage application, time your disputes accordingly or tell your loan officer.

Your lender reads the file and never asks who wrote the letters

The answer to the question you came with is simple: the path is invisible and the file is everything. What follows you into the loan office is the report, so the work worth buying is finding the items that are wrong and getting letters out on them.

How CreditRefresh takes you from scan to signed letter in three steps

A lender sees the same final file whichever path you took, so we built the path around control and a flat price. CreditRefresh is an AI-powered credit-dispute tool that reads your reports, flags items that look inaccurate, incomplete, unverifiable or too old to be legally reported, and drafts a ready-to-send letter for each one. It goes from report scan to letter to mailing in three steps, with nothing to learn and no training session. Members rate us 4.6 across 22 reviews on Trustpilot.

On September 20, 2026, Rory D. gave us five stars on Trustpilot: “Found errors that I was unaware of in a very short time”.

You review and sign every letter, and you mail each round yourself or use RushMail for a small per-letter fee. The $49.99 monthly price covers CreditRefresh together with Refresh Monitoring. We are not a law firm, we give no legal advice, and no result is promised.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does filing a credit dispute lower my credit score?

No. Experian says filing a dispute has no impact on credit scores in and of itself, though a change to the data in your report can move a score (Experian, 2026). A temporary note on the account during the investigation can cause small movement in either direction. Scores depend on the rest of your file.

What does the Credit Repair Organizations Act say a credit repair company cannot do?

It bars companies offering credit repair services from demanding advance payment. It requires that credit repair contracts be in writing and gives consumers certain contract cancellation rights (Federal Trade Commission). That includes cancelling before midnight of the third business day after signing.

Should I check my credit reports for errors before applying for a mortgage?

Yes, and before the lender does. Because the three files can differ, read all three, and AnnualCreditReport.com is the only authorized site for the free ones (FTC, 2026). Allow for the 30-day investigation window if you find an error.

Which credit bureau report do lenders pull when you apply?

It varies by lender, because lenders report to different bureaus. Major banks and national credit card, mortgage and auto lenders typically report to all three bureaus, while smaller lenders, community banks and credit unions can report to only one or two (HousingWire, 2026). We draft dispute letters for Equifax, Experian and TransUnion, so an error on any one file gets its own letter.

Does credit repair software guarantee a higher score?

No. The bureaus decide dispute outcomes and scores depend on the rest of your file, so no one can promise a number. Our 100% money-back guarantee is a refund promise, separate from our refund policy and conditional, with all requirements at creditrefresh.ai/guarantee.

CreditRefresh drafts your dispute letters for all three bureaus and sends none until you review and sign it. Backed by a 100% money-back guarantee.
