You found an error in Credit Karma, tapped Direct Dispute, and figured the fix went out to every bureau. It went to one.

Credit Karma’s own help article says Direct Dispute only works for TransUnion reports (Intuit Credit Karma, 2026). Equifax and Experian still hold the error, and a lender pulls whichever file it picks. A dispute changes only the file it was filed against.

No, Credit Karma Sends Disputes to TransUnion Only

Credit Karma does not send a dispute to all three bureaus. Its help article states that Direct Dispute only works for TransUnion reports, and a member who picks Equifax in the Dispute Center is redirected to the Equifax website (Intuit Credit Karma, 2026). Experian is not part of the flow at all. One tap reaches one bureau.

Credit Karma is not a credit bureau. It is free because lenders pay it for referrals, which is worth knowing when you read its pages. On January 23, 2023, the FTC finalized an order requiring Credit Karma to pay $3 million over claims that consumers were pre-approved for credit card offers when many were ultimately denied.

How Direct Dispute Works Inside the Credit Karma App

Direct Dispute is a form in the app. You pick the account, choose an ownership or accuracy reason, and submit it to TransUnion. The help article describes no letter that Credit Karma drafts for you, and it tells a member filing elsewhere to write their own dispute letter (Intuit Credit Karma, 2026).

That makes it a fair front door for one TransUnion error. It is a form, and a form files one dispute with one bureau. Equifax gets a redirect, so there is no Equifax or Experian dispute for the app to track.

Credit Karma’s Trustpilot score is 1.1 from 912 reviews. In its latest 200 reviews, 197 were one or two stars, and 34 of those 197 said nobody answers.

Bureau by Bureau: Where Each Dispute Has to Be Filed

TransUnion is the only bureau you can dispute with inside Credit Karma. Equifax and Experian each take disputes at their own doors.

BureauDispute inside Credit Karma?Where the dispute goes
TransUnionYes, through Direct DisputeSubmitted from the Credit Karma app
EquifaxNo, the app redirects youEquifax’s own website
ExperianNoExperian directly, by its own channel or by mail

Each bureau keeps its own file. That is why FICO says the same score can differ across the three, and why disputing runs item by item and bureau by bureau (FICO, 2026).

A Fix at One Bureau Leaves the Other Two Files Alone

A TransUnion fix does nothing for your Equifax or Experian report. The FTC’s national accuracy study found that 1 in 5 consumers had an error on at least one of their three credit reports (FTC, 2013). The same error often sits on more than one file.

In CreditRefresh’s analysis of paying-member data, 56.6% of analyzed members had a gap above 20 points between their highest and lowest bureau scores, and the median gap was 23.5 points. The figure measures how far scores differ across bureaus and does not say which one is wrong.

A lender who pulls Equifax or Experian after your TransUnion fix still sees the old file. Our list of five things you can legally dispute includes cross-bureau inconsistencies on accounts one bureau verified as accurate. Those only show up when you read all three reports side by side.

How to Dispute at Equifax and Experian When Credit Karma Won’t

Pull your reports, then dispute each error with the bureau that holds it. All three bureaus let you check your report for free every week at AnnualCreditReport.com (FTC, 2026). Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, a bureau that gets a dispute must run a reasonable reinvestigation, generally within 30 days, and delete or correct what it cannot verify (Fair Credit Reporting Act, Section 611).

Pull all three reports. Our walkthrough on pulling your report from all three bureaus in one tap covers the free route.

Mark each error by bureau. Note which file shows it. An error on two files needs two disputes.

File with each bureau that holds it. Use Direct Dispute for TransUnion if you like, and file with Equifax and Experian yourself.

Keep a copy and a date. A dispute you cannot prove you sent is a dispute you cannot follow up.

Mailing adds its own risk. In a 1-star Trustpilot review of Dispute Beast dated September 6, 2026, JCruz wrote: “Credit agencies did not submmit. Most or all agencies replied saying Disputes submited by mail (Sprint) are not going to be applied for reasons like: it was not your person who requested such, if I was using 3rd party it has to be reported”. Whoever sends a dispute should read what comes back.

You do not need a paid firm to use this right. On December 5, 2024, the CFPB announced the return of $1.8 billion to 4.3 million people who were charged illegal advance fees by the credit repair conglomerate behind Lexington Law and CreditRepair.com.

Which Dispute Route Fits an Error on One, Two, or Three Bureaus?

Where the error sits decides the route. A single TransUnion error fits Direct Dispute. Anything on Equifax or Experian needs its own filing.

Your situationRoute that fits
One error, on TransUnion onlyDirect Dispute in Credit Karma, or file with TransUnion directly
One error, on Equifax or ExperianFile with that bureau directly
Same error on two or three reportsDispute at each bureau; each keeps its own file

Be careful what you expect from any route. The most common complaint in Credit Karma’s latest 200 reviews is a promised result that did not happen, 43 of the 197 one- and two-star reviews. A dispute promises a reinvestigation. The bureau decides the result, and accurate items stay.

Every bureau file needs its own dispute, and Credit Karma files one of the three.

Skip the paperwork. Start your dispute.

How CreditRefresh Disputes All Three Bureaus for $49.99 a Month

A dispute only fixes the file it was filed against, so our scan reads all three bureau reports and drafts a dispute letter for each item you choose to challenge. In CreditRefresh’s September 18, 2026 analysis of paying-member data, 2.3% of disputed bureau-level items in mailed rounds had a recorded outcome. Within that subset, 47.9% were no longer reported on a newer pull of the same bureau, while 52.1% remained reported with a changed balance, status or negative flag.

Mailed rounds in that data average 23.6 disputed bureau-level items, which is the workload one tap in an app was never built to carry. We flag items that look inaccurate, incomplete, unverifiable, or too old to report. You review and sign every letter before anything goes out. You can mail the round yourself or hand it to RushMail for a small per-letter fee, and we record each letter and the date it went out. Our Day 1 walkthrough shows the three-bureau pull.

It is included with Refresh Monitoring at $49.99 a month, with no setup fee and no contract. The bureaus decide every outcome, and no one can promise a score.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does disputing on Credit Karma actually work?

Direct Dispute files your form with TransUnion, and TransUnion must run a reasonable reinvestigation. What happens next is the bureau’s decision: it deletes or corrects what it cannot verify, and an accurate item stays. It does nothing for Equifax or Experian.

Does Credit Karma pull from all three credit bureaus?

No. Credit Karma shows TransUnion and Equifax data and no Experian. To see all three files, pull your free reports at AnnualCreditReport.com.

Can I just dispute everything on my credit report?

Dispute what is wrong. A bureau can end a dispute it finds frivolous or irrelevant, and an accurate item stays. In CreditRefresh’s September 18, 2026 extract, 97.7% of paying members carry at least one negative tradeline entry, and a negative entry is not automatically inaccurate.

What’s more accurate, Experian or Credit Karma?

Neither is a verdict on your file. Experian is a bureau that keeps its own file, and Credit Karma is not a bureau. Scores differ by bureau, scoring model, and timing, so a lender’s number can differ from either one.

Can one dispute letter cover all three bureaus?

No. Each bureau keeps its own file, so each needs its own dispute for each item it carries. We draft a separate letter for every bureau and item you choose.

How do I dispute an error at Experian?

File with Experian directly, by its own dispute channel or by mail, and keep a dated copy. Pull your Experian report first so the dispute names the exact account and the exact error.

CreditRefresh covers the Equifax and Experian files that Credit Karma’s Direct Dispute never touches, and you sign every letter before it goes out.
